Do I need a GP referral to see Fiona?
No — you can book directly. Most insurers will ask for one before they cover the appointment, so check with your insurer first if you're using insurance.
Will I see Fiona at every appointment, or a junior?
Every consultation is with Fiona herself. The surgeon you meet at the first appointment is the surgeon who performs the operation and provides the long-term follow-up.
Can imaging happen on the same day?
Where clinically possible, yes — that's what the one-stop format is for. Examination, imaging (mammogram and ultrasound), and any needed biopsy happen in the same visit.
What if I want a second opinion before deciding?
Second-opinion appointments are part of routine practice — see Second opinion. Bring any imaging, pathology and treatment plan you already have; the consultation is built around reviewing those independently.
How long do I wait for biopsy results?
Results take a few working days. My PAs, Sarah or Nadiya, will contact you as soon as they are available; you can also call or email them at any point if you have not heard.
How do I decide if you're the best surgeon for me?
There isn't a league table. "Best for you" is a fit question: the same consultant from the first visit through the operation; oncoplastic training and a GMC specialist-register entry you can check; multidisciplinary review for cancer decisions; a one-stop visit when imaging needs to happen the same day; and enough time to choose, including doing nothing. What if I'd rather see a male surgeon, or someone else entirely?
That's a reasonable preference and a common one. Patient choice matters more than picking a particular practice. The Bucks Breast Unit and the HCA / Circle hospitals all have other consultants — your GP can make the referral that fits you best.
